The Institute for New Industrial Culture INIK GmbH emerged in 2005 from the International Building Exhibition (IBA) in Lusatia. Through our profile at the interface between research and implementation, we focus on planning strategies and implementation-relevant competencies in the context of regional and urban development as well as architecture. The focus of our research, construction, and planning projects is the reuse of industrial sites and buildings in Germany. Part of our work is the international transfer of experience regarding the reuse of brownfields in post-mining regions (focus: Latin America).
Initially, the general problem situations, goals, framework conditions, and instruments of the partner region are recorded and then compared with the situation in Lusatia. Finally, strategies for regional development are established based on the specific example of selected mining areas.
